In a previous IGTV post we announced our second The British Bengalis fitness challenge (our last was the Virtual 5K challenge), our Virtual Road Trip of the Bengal Province.
We’ve stepped, walked, cycled, and ran our way across 19 checkpoints, from Kolkata to Gangtok. Through three international border checkpoints, two countries. All within the former Bengal Province. Our participants have travelled literally thousands of miles, 2,202 to be precise, to reach our final checkpoint, Gangtok, a popular tourist destination for Bengalis and not only is it a great escape from the summer heat in the plains but has some of most amazing views of the Himalayas 🙌🏾.
You can see in the first slide our ‘group selfie’. Of course, this was all virtual and so not Covid-19 guidelines have been breached, just some new connections formed and a bucket list item created 😀
it’s been an incredible journey. We’ve moved at every opportunity from increasing our step count whilst WFH, cooking, and cleaning; to walking, cycling, and running.
From The British Bengalis we would like to thank all participants that took part in our second health fitness challenge.
Like all other South Asian communities, Bengalis on average are more likely to suffer from diseases such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes compared to their white counterparts. By increasing the amount of physical activity you do, you decrease the likelihood of developing theses diseases and improving your health outcomes.
Until the next fitness challenge, keep moving all 🙌🏾
PS did you notice who beat us to the checkpoint? 😜
