Hi, i'm Amit - and I was born and raised in inner city London; but am now a fully fledged Brummie! I have Bangladeshi heritage and like most British Bengalis of my generation, I have long felt a duality in my identity - one persona at home and a different persona everywhere else! Each persona never crossing nor meeting the other.
I am a professional services consultant by trade, I love travelling, I find every opportunity possible to get in the saddle of my road bike, and I'm a proud father of one.
Since my solo trip to Bangladesh, I have made it my personal project to try and introduce and integrate my Britishness and my Bengaliness, one day at a time. I enjoy writing (not that i'm any good at it) and have found starting a blog an incredible way of sharing my thoughts and opinions.
I also thought this would be a good platform to highlight some characters/events/stories from the multitude of community bubbles accross the UK that form the British Bengali diaspora to showcase the rich culture we have, the connections we have with the 'motherlands' (e.g. Bangladesh, North Eastern States of India, West Bengal, and places i'm not aware of!), what we have achieved, and the issues we face that need to be resolved.
I hope you enjoy reading this blog and find it insightful - especially pieces written by family members/friends/guest authors who I owe a debt of gratitude to for lending their time!
As this is a not for profit platform, it would be great if you could show your support by liking, sharing, and/or commenting on our posts here or via our social medial pages ☺️
I hope you find some of the insights in this blog interesting and even useful! Please feel free to ping us an email with your thoughts or even ideas for pieces (which we would be grateful for) at: thebritishbengalis@gmail.com
