Do you know the origin story of Britain? If we mention Anglo-Saxons, does it elicit past images of half torn dreary Primary School textbooks? If so, you’re not alone and we were hesitant to ‘go there’! But we did and as we look back with our proud British Bengali lenses on, we see things a little differently and are fascinated by it.
Our last post on exploring the past was on the Kingdom of Gauda, where the notion of a United Bengal began. At a similar time period, also around 500 CE, the early stages of Britain were being formed.
It was a bitterly divided land and embroiled into many wars, probably similar to the Kingdom of Gauda / Bengal.
So, take a look at our slides and have a renewed look into the ‘Dark Ages’ of medieval Britain and find out more about the origin story of Britain…from where the Britishness in our identity properly started to take shape. It involves mass immigration, seizing power, many gods, and adopting what would become the largest religion in the world.
